Role
Newmont is building an ISO 50001 energy management system across its global operations. The platform reads site data from control systems, fuel systems and fleet data into a central data historian, structures it by asset, and turns it into dashboards for every level from site managers to operators. The goal is to cut the energy used per ounce of gold produced.
Since early 2026 I have worked on the team delivering the pilot site and planning the rollout to further sites, seconded through Axiom Project Services.
Responsibilities
- Built the front-end engineering and design (FEED) schedule for the second pilot site in Microsoft Project, with an assumptions register so the plan could be re-baselined when conditions changed. Traced an unexplained jump in duration to a finish-date artefact in Project and corrected it.
- Wrote and version-controlled the business requirements document through to sign-off readiness, working through reviews from the energy and test leads.
- Wrote the user acceptance test scripts for the pilot, including nine new tests that check dashboard data against the source systems.
- Maintained the cash flow model, budget forecast and funding options for the project manager.
- Ran monthly accruals and the purchase order register, followed up contractor system access, and managed document control and governance records such as decision notes and the lessons learned register.
- Prepared the weekly and steering committee reporting packs.
Validation
A check of the dashboards against source data found heavy fuel oil volumes reading consistently low on every page where they appeared, pointing to a density or units error. Heavy fuel oil is the largest share of site energy, so several headline metrics were understated. The same check found a gap in the year-to-date energy history for the processing plant. Both findings went into the contractor’s fix list.
Outcome
The role has grown from supporting the reporting cycle to owning defined pieces of scheduling, requirements, testing and financial work. The common thread is taking a moving set of project information and turning it into something structured and current for the people making decisions.
