I’m a mechanical engineer who works on the whole problem: defining it with the people who have it, then designing, building and testing the hardware that solves it.
I studied mechanical engineering at The University of Queensland. In first year I volunteered to design a camera carriage for a coal mine’s borehole camera, working only from photos and phone calls. My honours thesis with Queensland Rail took a wheel measuring tool from concept to field testing. Roles followed at Glencore’s Rolleston mine and in product improvement at Cummins, and project controls on capital works at a gold mine. I now work on energy management systems for Newmont.
In parallel I ran my own product business: a film scanning kit I designed and produced on my own printer farm, with more than 1,000 units sold. It was a direct education in design for manufacture, because every fragile feature and extra part came back to me.
What I’m looking for: a product development or mechanical design role in Brisbane, where I can take hardware from first concept through to production.
